Give Purpose To Your Daily Tasks

“Wash the plate not because it is dirty nor because you are told to wash it, but because you love the person who will use it next.”

—Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Life tends to make more sense when we have a purpose, and all of the daily tasks that we deal with, when given meaning, don’t feel as annoying when attached to this greater purpose.

Mother Teresa poses a simple notion, but it is one that can easily change your whole perspective. When faced with a mountain of tasks, do them with gusto and zeal not because you have to but because you want to make someone else’s life easier… And remember that that someone could even be you.

Preparing your meals ahead of time not only makes your life easier, but it is a form of self-love; much the same as cleaning up your workspace in preparation for the next person is a kind consideration for them.

The foundation of this idea is that of discipline; doing things we know we need to do, whether or not we want to do them. Attaching purpose to discipline—showing love and consideration for the next person—makes it that much more important to stay disciplined and show love to all those around us.
