Something that has not been touched on a lot here in the blog is the art of coaching. Yes, we want to be technically trained, and we absolutely need to seek continuing education in order to better our technical knowledge. BUT there is one skill in coaching that stands out for all the greatest coaches I know: The ability to connect with your client.
A client who feels seen, heard and cared for will trust you as their coach. They will work harder because they feel connected to you and to your gym. Check in with yourself as a coach, do you know your clients day to day life? Job responsibilities? Their spouses and kids names? Do you know why they started strength training? What their perceived barriers to training are? What brought them into your gym? The ripple effect of a coach who cares are clients who work hard and see progress. Your gym will have better retention and referrals to more awesome clients. Always keep checking on your people!
