“Today is the day you woke up from time traveling to rewrite the future you didn’t want.”
—Joel
“This is it! Today is the day,” you tell yourself.
It’s the one day a year that we give ourselves a clean slate.
If you’re anything like me, you watched as the sun crested over the horizon this morning. Relatively speaking it was cold out, but you’ve got a buzz building inside your chest that keeps you preternaturally warm; this buzz that’s building up is the dawn of a new year, fresh opportunities, and unlimited possibilities ahead of you.
And if you’re anything like me, you don’t buy into any of that.
December 31st is just as important as January 1st. January 2nd is just as important as December 30th, and so on.
We are often limited to socially accepted constraints that we adopt from our local cultures and norms, and impose these upon ourselves without exception or a single challenge. We dare not buck the social norms.
If today is the day that you need to reset and get on track, do that. But if you find yourself waiting every December to “restart” in the New Year, then I implore you to stand up for yourself—against yourself—and take measurable consistent action now, today, and to stop stopping.
Take charge of your future now and every day going forward; do not delay in shaping your life to be what you dream it; and do not seek permission to begin making changes.
