Saying “No Thank You”…

“Up to a point a person’s life is shaped by environment, heredity, and changes in the world about them. Then there comes a time when it lies within their grasp to shape the clay of their life into the sort of thing they wish it to be. Only the weak blame parents, their race, their times, lack of good fortune or the quirks of fate. Everyone has the power to say, ‘This I am today. That I shall be tomorrow.’”

-Louis L’Amour, ‘The Walking Drum’

It’s coming upon that time of year when self care falls to the wayside in favor of get-togethers, sweet treats, and sugar plums (or whatever). While you should take some downtime and spend quality time with family and friends, you also need to take into consideration the fact that now more than ever you need to stay true to yourself and keep your eyes on your goals.

Whether your goals are purely strength + physique related, or more health and wellness focused, you will feel an incredible sense of pride if you learn one simple phrase – ‘no thank you.’ This phrase will get you out of going to events you don’t really want to go to, eating foods you know won’t make you feel good, and keep you from staying up too late and missing a morning workout. The fastest way to become a healthier version of yourself is to embody the actions that a healthy person might do. Sometimes saying ‘no thank you’ is the hardest exercise you’ll perform in a day—an exercise of restraint—but the benefits from that will ripple through the rest of the end of the year!
